Support services group wins top award

SGMS Group has scooped a prestigious award for business innovation after integrating the operations of recently acquired, Solihull based, SG Maintenance Services with Kent based Richardson.

The built environment support services group now get to work with the Executive Education team at award sponsors Aston Business School, as part of the prize.

SGMS Group brings together under one organisation the project and construction capability of Richardson with the reactive and planned maintenance (i.e. mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fabric and refrigeration) capability of SG Maintenance Services.

Professor Jill Poole, Associate Dean at Aston Business School, presented the Birmingham Post Award to SG Maintenance Services Managing Director Terry Smith and SGMS Group CEO Geoff Phillips at the city centre campus.

The firm will have £9,000 to spend with Executive Education, which could be used for consultancy, a managerial masterclass or other executive coaching.

Jim Dickson, Director of Executive Education, said: "This is a great opportunity for SGMS Group to gain academic expertise from Aston that could further boost the appetite for innovation that already exists within this business.

"It is at times like this, when the economy has slowed, that companies need to innovate to pull themselves out of the other side of the turbulence faster and stronger."
