Top firms exchange ideas .... and managers!

28/5/2008

Top companies across the Midlands are set to swap key members of staff in a series of mini exchanges aimed at boosting business.

Project managers from Land Rover, GKN Driveline, Mouchel and Service Birmingham are taking part in the pioneering gateway project.

It was organised by the UK’s first Centre for Project Management Practice based at Aston Business School in Birmingham.

The innovative, £200,000 scheme brings together academics and businesses across the Midlands, in a bid to get participants to share and benchmark project management knowledge.

There will be five exchanges in the first series, starting with an employee of GKN Driveline joining Mouchel as a team leader on May 19 and 20.

There will be five exchanges in the first series, starting with a Project Manager from GKN Driveline joining Mouchel on May 19th – 20th.

The employee will become a key member of the highway design team, experiencing the running and assisting in the delivery of highway and infrastructure projects.

They will also participate in the delivery of engineering design solutions and be responsible for achieving results within the timescale, to the level of quality and to the budget agreed with the client.

Dr Naomi Brookes, Centre Director and lecturer at Aston Business School, said the centre was creating some fantastic links between project management knowledge and its practice in industry.

“Businesses are finally understanding the importance of project management and sharing skills in this exchange scheme is a great way to utilise the expertise available.

“It will help businesses to effectively undertake innovations and it helps academic researchers to tailor their research to practitioners’ needs.”

Further exchanges are scheduled to take place later in the year.
