MBA student joins city Chamber for CSR research

Corporate Social responsibility is often seen as the preserve of larger companies.

But is it a misconception that SMEs have not got the time, or resource, to become an integral part of their local environment?

An Aston MBA student has joined forces with Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry to launch a project to find out how much SMEs have embraced CSR.

The Business Development Group (BDG) at the Chamber has enlisted the help of Arturo Briseno in developing an on-line questionnaire to go out to SMEs from across the region.

Michael Mott, who heads up the BDG, said: “After much hype from government and leading business support organisations such as the idea that CSR could benefit companies took off. “

“Many larger companies now second staff to various projects and initiatives, but we have found that smaller companies do not embrace the idea because it is felt too much time and resource is needed.

“What we want to find out is how deeply that thinking goes and whether directors of SMEs are aware of the full benefit of CSR to their businesses.”

The questionnaire can be reached by going into the following link website on www.bciskills.com/csr
