60th Anniversary of Aston Business School

“Then and Now” Open Day

On 17th June 2008, Aston Business School opened its' doors to staff and students past and present to celebrate the School's achievements and explain the vision for the future.

Professor Julia King CBE, FREng, Vice Chancellor, Aston University, welcomed over 100 guests.

Emeritus Professor Derek Pugh outlined how the business school's reputation for excellence in research was established. Professor Pugh first taught at Aston in the 1960s and helped to found the Aston Studies Programme.

Carole Parkes, Aston Business School, Work and Organisational Psychology Group, and Kathy Daniels of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management launched a recently published book entitled "Aston Centre for Human Resources - Building Research-based Practice".

Guest Speaker, Sir Peter Rigby talked about how a Business School can meet the future needs of industry.

Professor Michael West, Executive Dean of Aston Business School, concluded the formal proceedings by outlining his vision for the future, and presented Pat Clark, AARM Administrator with the Aston Business School Medal for Career Contribution 2008.

Invited guests enjoyed afternoon tea and listened to classical music provided by the Birmingham Conservatoire.

60th anniversary celebrations concluded on Friday 4th July when Aston Business School staff gathered to enjoy a "Summer of 47" themed party.
